It’s all about food…

Sonoma County has such a variety on great restaurants and we all have our favorites. Yours truly doesn’t go out that much for dinner or breakfast but when we do, ofcourse, we have our favorites. For me, the best breakfast in Sonoma County is found in Duncan Mills, the restaurant is Cape Fear. Every time we go there we have a great time and the food is delicious. They have several versions of Eggs Benedict, my favorite is Eggs Florentine We usually combine this with a trip to the coast, a perfect day in Sonoma County.

My dear friend Julie highly recommends Jeffrey’s Hillside Cafe in Santa Rosa. She did a comparison tasting of 3 local favorites and wrote a blog about it.

Relocation for Dogs – Doggie date

Sonoma County is a great place to move to when you own a dog.  Ragle Ranch regional park in Sebastopol has a great Dog Park.

Our regional parks are dog friendly, check this link. With a few exceptions your four legged friends are welcome to enjoy the beautiful outdoors too;)

Not only will your dog have a great time, it’s also a great way to get to know other dog owners in the area. Which makes me think of the movie with Will Smith – Hitch 😉

It’s all about food…

Addicted to Chocolate? Welcome to Sonoma County. The place to go for an abundance of good food and delicacies. A great place to satisfy your craving: Viva Cocolat in Petaluma. The hot sipping chocolate is truly a special experience. On Friday or Saturday evenings they offer Chocolate Fondue.  Talk about a great place for an outing with friends.

Another great place for delicious Truffles: Peter’s Chocolates. You can order them directly or buy them at the local farmers market on Sundays in Windsor.

While San Francisco is known for Ghirardelly Chocolate, I personally am very happy with the selection we have in Sonoma County 😉

Allergies and Honey

Many people who moved to Sonoma County have found that our plentiful supply of local honey is a very helpful natural remedy for allergies.

Last week, while showing property, we stopped by the local Honey stall at 1295 Bloomfield Road in Sebastopol. There is no one there so you just pick what you like and put the money you owe for it in a box. You will also find them at the farmers market in Sebastopol on Sundays.

Here is their website.

They also maintain a blog about bees and beekeeping. Should you like to become a beekeeper yourself when you move here, they are happy to get you started. Let me know what your interests are -it might be beekeeping-  so we can keep that in mind when we go house hunting;)

Tools to Borrow

What if you just moves into your new house and need tools? Buying all the tools you maybe need once or twice a year? The local hardware store will be happy to see you?

There is an other option: The Santa Rosa Tool Library: BorrowTools. Founded in 2008 by Justing Zuckerman who loaned tools out of his ground level apartment. In April 2011 it moved ti a more public facility in downtown Santa Rosa at 642 5th Street.

You will find hand and power tools for home repair, landscaping and automotive work free of charge. To rent tools, you need to live and work in Sonoma County and be at least 18 years old.

There are a few more rules, check out the website and start your project.

Welcome to Sonoma County

A blog about living in Sonoma County? Great info for people who consider moving to Sonoma County. Just tid bits, funny things good stuff, all that makes Sonoma County a great place to live and work.

Sonoma County is diverse, it borders the Pacific Ocean with a beautiful coast line, is part of California’s Wine County with it’s many vineyards, appellations and wineries producing some of the best wines on earth (no I am not biased) and has many micro climates. The climate is mild and yet we enjoy all four seasons with the more extreme part of every season within a few hours drive -> snow, desert, city.

There will be some history, some fun, some numbers, something of everything and it will come more from a Dutch/international perspective.

Hope you’ll enjoy reading my little tidbits!
